    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jonathan.dingle@218strand.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A mediator acts as a neutral party who facilitates fair and meaningful understanding between participants where communication has typically broken down. Mediation is typically found in legal settings, but can be used in any area where there is a dispute, such as employee relations or even between private citizens. Certain types of mediation require specific training, such as family mediation, but the function of a mediator remains the same.

Mediation is a rewarding profession that has a wide scope of application and demand, and is a deeply human role. It is not predicated on previous qualifications, but rather on mindset, dedication and discipline.

Our Accredited Mediator Training course is a 40 hour course, delivered online over the course  of one working week. We offer other courses that build on the Accreditation, covering topics like Building a Mediation Business and opportunities for Continuing Professional Development, which can be one to two days, often hybrid events.

Training as a mediator gives you a skillset that you can use in any application. The Society of Mediators focuses on effective listening and the retention of information, which are key abilities that can enhance your performance in any setting, above and beyond your new career as an internationally accredited mediator.

If a course requires delegates to have any prior knowledge or qualification this will be clearly stated within the ‘Who is this course for’ section of the booking page.

If you are in any doubt at all, please contact us.

In order to book one of our courses, you simply need to click ‘Book a Place’ on the course details page.

If this is the first course that you have booked with us, then you will then be prompted to set up your Learning Account before you are able to complete your booking.

Your Learning Account stores details of all courses you book with 218 Strand as well as your progress in completing them and any qualifications achieved.

This will ensure that all of your qualification details and CPD are stored in one convenient, easily accessible place. You will also have the option to upload your qualification certificates and/or dates so that we can remind you when your annual CPD is due.

Our in person courses are held at our Headquarters at 218 Strand London as well as regionally, in locations such as Taunton, Manchester and Birmingham.  We are however happy to travel to any location dependant on demand, please do contact us if you would like to discuss an course near you.

Courses must be paid for in full at the time of booking. Payment can be made by any major credit and debit card via our secure online payment portal.

If your employer or organisation is paying for your course and a credit or debit card is not available then please contact us ASAP so that we can raise an invoice and make arrangements for BACS payment prior to the course start date

This will depend on the course taken and full details can be found on the individual course booking page.

Our Accredited Mediation Training Course provides a qualification recognised by the Civil Mediation Council and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as well as many international bodies.

Our CPD courses are recognised by a wide range of professional bodies including the Bar Council and a number of Royal Colleges.

We are fully aware that there are many organisations offering seemingly similar training, our advice would be to ensure that whichever course you choose has appropriate accreditation. It would be very unfortunate to complete a course and discover it is not recognised professionally. The Society of Mediators offer internationally recognised accreditation, as well as the opportunity to fulfill the required CPD hours with mediators who are pre-eminent in their respective fields.
